Why do you need a new mattress?
We often blame our bad night’s sleep on things like stress, diet, and too much screen time. Although these causes are common, one thing that sometimes gets overlooked is the quality of our mattresses. If you’re noticing waking up feeling unrested, it could be time for a mattress upgrade. Below are some signs to help you determine if you need that new mattress sleep:
1. Your mattress is past its lifespan
Every mattress has a lifespan, and if you’re looking for quality sleep it's important to make sure your mattress isn’t past its prime. Most mattresses last anywhere from 7-10 years, however, there are many contributing factors that affect the longevity of your mattress including sleep position, weight, care routine, and quality. Since there's no specific “expiry date” for your mattress, it’s up to you to decide whether your mattress is past its lifespan!
2. You’re waking up with pain
After a long stressful day, nothing feels better than slipping into bed to rest your body. If you are noticing that after a full night's sleep, you’re waking up with more aches and pains than you had the night before, your mattress may be to blame.
3. Other places feel more comfortable
If you’re opting for sleeping on the sofa over sleeping in your bed, it may be time for a mattress upgrade. Your bed should be the most comfortable spot in your house, making it almost too cozy to leave in the mornings. If you’re feeling like your sofa is giving you a better night's sleep…a new mattress might be your answer.
4. Allergies
Suffer from itchy eyes, stuffy nose, or scratchy throat? The most common causes of allergies are dust mites, mould, and pet dander. Unfortunately, your mattress is a huge storage place for these triggers to collect. The best type of mattress to help protect allergy sufferers - is latex, as latex mattresses are naturally resistant to these triggers. So, if you’re suffering from allergic reactions with no known cause – don’t rule out your mattress!
5. Squeaking Mattress
Did you sit on a dog toy or is that just your mattress? If you’re hearing squeaks throughout the night, your mattress may be the problem. An old mattress or damaged inner springs are usually to blame for this annoying sound, and a new mattress may have to be your next purchase if you’re looking for a silent night.
